Bathrooms: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall…

When it comes to Kenyan interior decorating most bathrooms are not given much attention.  Most of bathrooms are small, have little light coming in through an opaque window high up on the wall and are definitely not stylish.  However, this does not need to be the case.  You can add color to the bathroom and bring in style without spending much money.  One of the ways to turn a small dingy bathroom into an elegant room is to use mirrors.  Granted most bathrooms come with a wall mirror above the sink, however, there is nothing attractive about a plain mirror stuck on a wall.  There are things you can do to make your bathroom look great.

To begin with, you can check out mirror frames that have decorative molding.  These will go a long way in enhancing your decorating style.  For those who are looking for a contemporary look, chrome is a great choice.  For those who prefer a country bath then pine is an excellent choice.  For a cottage style bathroom go for a white frame and for pure elegance try silver, gold or dark wood.  Because of the fact that most bathrooms have little light, using a mirror will reflect the light making the room look much livelier, brighter and larger.

If you already have a mirror on the wall and don’t have the money to have it framed, try decorating it with silk flowers or a garland for a whole new look.  If the bathroom is small but has a wall space, putting a large mirror going from one end to the other can open up the room and make it brighter.  In addition to the mirrors, paint your walls a light color as this also reflects light.  Have different lighting in the bathroom as well to make it brighter with a dimming option for those mellow, relaxing, intimate times.

Living Room Décor: Using Wall Mirrors

Living room décor should never be taken lightly.  This room should reflect who you are and your personality should shine through.  It should be a room that is comfortable to hang out in and entertain guests.  Furniture should be placed in such a way as to allow for easy movement and easy communication.  Wall mirrors can be used to decorate the living room and are an excellent choice if you want to create an illusion of space as well as add depth to it.

Wall mirrors work very well in any size room but a small living room definitely gets the most out of this décor tip.  Usually, decorating a small space can be quite challenging however, large mirrors that are well placed can greatly enhance the way your living room looks while making it look and feel larger and more spacious.  Be sure to position the mirror in such a ways as to reflect something soothing to the eyes.  Positioning the mirror across from a window can also help add light to a room that is dark.  If you have enough space, adding some pictures or paintings on either side will give an even more elegant look.

When selecting a mirror, it is important that you take into account the shape of the mirror which can include, round mirrors, square, oval mirrors and even rectangular ones.  Another thing to look at is the mirror frame.  Wall mirrors have frames made of various materials including metal, leather, beads, tile, wood and more.  You also can choose between antique mirrors and contemporary decorative mirrors depending on your overall interior décor idea.

Using Mirrors in Bedroom Décor

Placing mirrors in strategic places in your bedroom makes all the difference in your bedroom décor.  Additionally, it makes it easier to check out your clothes in the morning before you go off to face your day.  Small day to day tasks that must be performed in front of a bedroom mirror such as touching up your make up or straightening a tie become a joy.  The idea is to arrange your bedroom mirrors so that they are easily accessible to all.

There should be at least two mirrors in every bedroom: A vanity mirror and a full length mirror.   Most Kenyans have medium sized to small bedrooms and need to ensure that their décor takes space into consideration.  As such, mounting the full length mirror to your bedroom door or your wardrobe door is a great idea.  Your door mirror should be placed in such a way that you can stand in front of it both close and at a distance in order to get different views of yourself.  There should be enough light reflecting off your mirrors.  If there is not enough natural light, placing a lamp close to the mirror will do the trick.

Your vanity mirror or dressing table mirror should be placed in such a way as to make the most of natural light coming into the room.  The best place for it is close to a window where you can clearly see as you apply your make up. Even though majority of us wear our make up in the bathroom, having a comfortable, well lit place to do it just makes the experience more luxurious.  For the more adventurous fun loving person, a mirror on the headboard is a great idea.  A great idea is to have a box frame for the bed and then have 3 full length mirrors mounted sideways on the wall or on the headboard for a designer look!
